(back and front of)... and proceed to lie on the ground... you can use the meme of "the lying down game" or play dead.. it would be good to do this on the astrological date of Samhain.. Monday, the 8th November at lunchtime.. as it would be quite symbolic. No speakers, no flags, no marches... just a big photo opp.. the message is clear.. to add something to inject some humour and pathos, the potato could be used as a unifying symbol.. this could be used in various street art actions (impaled on railings with a note about the event.. on the day we could make stamps and use wash-off ink to mark the pavements).
close your eyes, picture it. it's a good one isn't it? let's do it!

btw: i've only put one vote on this myself as it is requirement for posting it.. i ask people who like this to give it double or triple..

hi Anna... this would be better done without giving the Gardai any reason to intervene....it should be done in good humour.. this is non confrontational it would only last for 15 mins or so.. the point is made in photographs..
part of the "general" protest? : no... the whole point would be lost on it in that case...
think flash mobs..
this is not "my thing"... it is meant to be any easy to do thing that anybody can do. the problem with the 'protests' (at least the ones in recent ... more

this is not "my thing"... it is meant to be any easy to do thing that anybody can do. the problem with the 'protests' (at least the ones in recent times) is that they isolate people.. sure they get people out talking about how bad things are and gives some unification of the people but those who speak do not speak for all and often the point of the protest is lost.
a few years ago, protesters were just regarded as tree huggers / hippies etc.. when everyone was busy chasing the dream and were happy to dismiss them as so.. in things that could have been prevented over the years.. protest did not work.. the government expects them.. they say it is our democratic right but will not listen.. the agenda is set.. what is happening now in terms of protest is quite different... people feel much safer to call it a 'march' or a 'demonstration' etc.. because perhaps they don't identify with protesters.. it is still protest.. but the point is protest in the normal sense is ignored... impact is what is needed.. the point is already made.. it just needs to be shown.. think about the cement truck.. that took guts.. not just a walk on the streets.
if we do something more creative by showing it like it is...( i.e. we ARE taking it lying down), then perhaps it will have some more impact and cannot be so easily ignored.
do vote for this though, seen as you took the time to comment.. and even if it just amuses you, do share it around.. see what people think about the nature of protest...
what i can see, from my experience over the last 3 years, trying to document something important which ties into all of this, is that people are dis-empowered and resigned to taking it lying down..
Anna
Don't forget to stand up before the garda arrives ;)
Why don't you join the general protest and do your thing as a part of it?
